Bones and Weather

As the cooler winds of October settle in, many of us feel the familiar ache in our bones—a reminder that our earthly bodies grow older and weaker with time. Yet even as our joints stiffen and our steps slow, God continues to strengthen our inner person day by day. This week’s devotionals are meant to encourage your heart during this season, reminding you that worn-out bones do not mean a worn-out spirit. The Lord walks with us tenderly, offering comfort, purpose, and renewed hope.

MONDAY

When the Cold Creeps In

“Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.”

Isaiah 46:4 (NKJV)

As the weather cools, many seniors feel the change before the forecast ever announces it. The cold creeps into our bones, slowing us down and making even simple movements a little more challenging. It’s a reminder that our bodies are not what they once were. Yet in this very season, God speaks a word of comfort that is both tender and powerful: “Even to your old age… I will carry you.”

God doesn’t simply promise to walk beside us—He promises to carry us. When our bones ache, He carries us. When our joints stiffen, He carries us. When the cold makes us feel fragile, He carries us. The Lord does not grow weary, and He does not grow impatient with our limitations. Instead, He draws nearer, supporting us with a strength that does not fade.

Aging is not a sign of spiritual decline; it is often a season of deeper dependence on God. The aches remind us that our earthly bodies are temporary, but they also remind us that our Shepherd is faithful. He knows every weakness, every limitation, every slow step—and He carries us through them all.

Let the cool weather be a gentle reminder that you are not walking alone. The God who carried you in youth carries you still, and He will continue to carry you until He brings you safely home.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, when the cold settles into my bones, let Your warmth settle into my heart. Carry me through each day with Your strength and comfort. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN!
