“. . . The LORD is your shade at your right hand.”
Psalm 121:5b (NKJV)
As May arrives, the temperatures begin to rise. The air warms, the days stretch longer, and the sun presses a little harder. Summer heat always reminds us that preparation matters. You don’t wait until July to check the air conditioner or stock up on water. You prepare now.
Spiritually, the same is true. Seasons of heat—pressure, stress, conflict, fatigue—rarely give advance notice. They arrive suddenly, and if we’re unprepared, they drain us quickly. But Scripture reminds us that the Lord Himself is our shade. He doesn’t remove the sun; He protects us under it.
Preparing for spiritual heat means tending to the small things now: daily prayer, Scripture meditation, honest confession, and intentional rest. These practices don’t eliminate the heat of life, but they keep us from burning out under it.
As summer approaches, let the rising temperatures remind you to prepare your soul. Strengthen your walk with God now so that when the heat comes, you stand firm, steady, and shaded by His presence.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, prepare my heart for the seasons of heat ahead. Teach me to rest in Your shade and draw strength from Your presence. Help me build habits that keep me close to You, no matter what pressures arise. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
