“The Fear of Not Being Enough”

“When a man takes hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying, ‘you have clothing; you be our ruler, and let these ruins be under your power,’ in that day he will protest, saying, ‘I cannot cute your ills, for in my house is neither food nor clothing; do not make me a ruler of the people.’ “

Isaiah 3:6-7 (NKJV)

God never asks you to lead out of your sufficiency—only out of your surrender.

The man in Isaiah 3 refuses leadership because he feels inadequate: “I have no remedy… I have no food or clothing.” In other words: “I don’t have what it takes.”

We’ve all felt that.

  • “I’m not wise enough.”
  • “I’m not spiritual enough.”
  • “I’m not strong enough.”
  • “I’m not ready.”

But God has a long history of calling people who feel insufficient. Why? Because when we know we’re not enough, we lean on the One who is.

The fear of inadequacy is one of the enemy’s favorite tools. If he can convince you that you’re too weak, too flawed, or too unprepared, he can keep you from stepping into the very place God wants to use you.

Isaiah 3 shows us what happens when fear wins: leadership collapses, and people suffer.

But Scripture shows us what happens when faith wins: God empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

Your inadequacy is not a disqualification—it’s an invitation to depend on God.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, when I feel inadequate, remind me that Your strength is made perfect in weakness. Silence the voice of fear and awaken the voice of faith. Use me in ways that reflect Your power, not my own. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
