“. . . The LORD has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet. He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers. Bashan and Carmel wither, and the flower of Lebanon wilts.”
Nahum 1:3b-4 (NKJV)
Friday
Even when life feels chaotic, God is not overwhelmed—He is in control.
Nahum shifts from God’s justice to God’s power over creation. Storms, whirlwinds, clouds, seas, rivers—these are symbols of chaos, danger, and unpredictability. But Nahum says something stunning: God’s way is in the whirlwind. The storm is not a sign of His absence—it is the place where He walks.
To Judah, this meant God was not intimidated by Assyria’s power. To us, it means God is not intimidated by anything we face. Not the storm in our health. Not the whirlwind in our family. Not the clouds hanging over our future.
Nahum also says God dries up seas and rivers. In Scripture, that’s language of deliverance. It’s Exodus language. It’s Red Sea language. It means God not only confronts the storm—He clears a path through it.
So when life feels out of control, Nahum invites us to remember:
- The storm is not stronger than God.
- The chaos is not bigger than His plan.
- The clouds are just the dust of His feet—evidence that He is near.
CLOSING PRAYER:
Lord, thank You that You walk in the storm and command the chaos. When life feels overwhelming, remind me that You are present, powerful, and working for my good. Clear the path before me and steady my heart as I follow You. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
