New Every Morning

“Through the LORD’S mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. Thy are new every morning; great is YOUR faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV)

As we continue this week of remembrance beyond Memorial Day, Lamentations 3:22–23 meets us with a truth we need just as much as the writer of Lamentations did: God’s faithfulness does not fade with time, and His mercy does not run out. In a book filled with sorrow, these verses rise like a sunrise after a long night. They remind us that even in seasons marked by loss, reflection, or heaviness, God’s compassion is steady, present, and renewed daily.

Memorial Day calls us to remember the sacrifices of others, but it also stirs deeper reflections—about life, fragility, gratitude, and the things that truly matter. In that spirit of remembrance, these verses invite us to look back not only on the cost of freedom, but also on the countless ways God has carried us through our own valleys.

The writer of Lamentations was surrounded by devastation, yet he chose to remember. He reached back into what he knew of God’s character and pulled forward hope. That is the power of remembering. When we recall God’s past faithfulness, we find strength for today. When we remember His mercies, we recognize that we are still standing because He has held us. When we remember His compassion, we realize that no season—no matter how heavy—gets the final word.

And then comes the promise: His mercies are new every morning. Not recycled. Not diminished. New. Fresh. Sufficient for whatever the day holds.

As we honor the past this week, let us also remember the God who meets us in the present with unfailing love and greets every tomorrow with renewed mercy.

Closing Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your great love that sustains us and Your mercies that meet us each morning. As we continue this week of remembrance, help us reflect on Your faithfulness with grateful hearts. Strengthen us through the memories of Your goodness, and let Your compassion steady us in every season. Great is Your faithfulness, Lord. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
