When Summer Comes Calling

Summer has a way of announcing itself long before the calendar catches up. You feel it in the air—the warmth that lingers a little longer in the evening, the sunlight that stretches past dinnertime, the subtle shift in the rhythm of the day. Even before June arrives, summer begins tapping on the door, reminding us that a new season is coming with all its energy, unpredictability, and opportunity.

Summer is a season of contrasts. It brings both heat and rest, storms and stillness, long days and late nights. It’s the time when families plan vacations, kids chase fireflies, and communities gather around grills, pools, and ballfields. But it’s also the season when temperatures rise, schedules get crowded, and sudden storms roll in without warning. Summer doesn’t tiptoe. It arrives boldly, bringing with it a mix of joy, challenge, and change.

There’s something about summer that invites us to slow down and speed up at the same time. We long for rest—time away, time outside, time to breathe. Yet summer also fills quickly with commitments, travel, projects, and expectations. It’s a season that asks us to be intentional: intentional with our time, our energy, and our focus.

Summer storms are part of the story too. Anyone who has lived through a Texas summer knows how quickly the sky can shift from blue to dark gray. One moment the air is still; the next, the wind is bending trees and thunder is shaking windows. Life works the same way. Seasons that look bright and predictable can suddenly turn turbulent. Plans change. Pressures rise. Unexpected challenges roll in like a fast‑moving front.

But summer also brings renewal. After a storm, the air feels cleaner. The colors sharpen. The world seems washed and refreshed. Summer reminds us that storms don’t last forever and that clarity often comes after disruption. It’s a season that teaches resilience—how to bend without breaking, how to rest without quitting, how to prepare without living in fear.

As we step into summer, it’s worth asking: What do I want this season to be? Not just what’s on the calendar, but what’s on the inside. Summer gives us permission to reset, to reconnect, to rediscover joy, and to re‑evaluate what matters most. It invites us to embrace the warmth, navigate the storms, and make space for the moments that fill us rather than drain us.

Summer is coming—and with it, a fresh opportunity to live with intention, gratitude, and openness to whatever this new season brings.
